To support this belief, many of our clubs provide annual scholarships or one-time awards to help women and girls pursue their educational goals and unlock opportunities for a brighter future. These scholarships align with our mission of enabling access to education and empowering women to achieve their potential.
SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
A range of New Zealand Soroptimist clubs offer its own unique scholarship, designed to meet the needs of women and girls in their community. Read below about some of the scholarships and awards available through our local clubs, along with more details.
Examples of Club Scholarships and Awards
Second Chance Education Grant: SI Waimea
SI Waimea offers an annual grant for second chance tertiary education for women over the age of 25 years wishing to gain a qualification to improve their future opportunities and enhance their family and personal circumstances.
Learning to Sail: Soar-Optimist
SI Taupō provides sponsorship of an Optimist boat (small dingy). This boat has been named 'Soar-Optimist' and it is for young girls 8-12 years old learning to sail. A donation is made to the Taupō Yacht Club in order to assist with the cost of maintaining a yacht for a year to enable young people to learn to sail and develop leadership skills.
SI Gore President Scholarship
SI Gore has an annual President Scholarship recipient.
SI Christchurch Westburn Music Scholarship
This scholarship of $750NZD is awarded annually to a talented pupil on the Special Music Programme at Westburn Primary School.
SI New Plymouth
Lois Williams Scholarship
Nelson Soroptimist Education Trust (NSET)
Scholarships are distributed to local women to support their tertiary education. These funds are raised from the hire of academic regalia to secondary and tertiary education institutions in the Marlborough and Tasman regions.

SI Westland has continued to support education in Nepal since the International President's Appeal: Educate to Lead - Nepal. Each girl that receives an education
