OVARIAN CANCER PROJECT
Education, advocacy and funding to reduce the impact of ovarian cancer in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The National Project Journey -
Back at the beginning of 2021, Rural Women NZ held a webinar on ovarian cancer as that was their National Project at the time.
A few Soroptimists watched the webinar and this sparked something!
In May 2022, SI Wellington nominated it for the National Project, this nomination was strongly supported by SI Rangatahi Wellington and it received overwhelming approval at the SIANZ AGM, making ovarian cancer awareness the official National Project for 2022-2025.
In September 2024, this National Project was voted by clubs to continue for a further two years.

All 19 clubs across Aotearoa New Zealand are encouraged to choose activities to achieve the aim of the National Project in whatever way they see fit!

SI Rangatahi Wellington researched, created, and published a podcast series on Ovarian Cancer - releasing the series on their newly created SI Chats Podcast channel. A total of four main episodes were produced with one episode released each week during Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month (September).
The goal of the series was to allow those that listened to learn something new, become more aware of the experiences of those with ovarian cancer and the charities working to improve outcomes, and to enable people to have conversations around ovarian cancer.
