FOOD SECURITY

Global Context
Food security and access to clean water are fundamental to human health, dignity, and well-being. Around the world, Soroptimists are committed to advocating for sustainable food systems and equitable access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Through global partnerships and initiatives, we support international frameworks, including the UN's SDGs, particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
Soroptimists worldwide engage in projects that promote sustainable agriculture, reduce food waste, and improve water conservation practices. We strive to raise awareness about food scarcity and water issues globally, advocate for policies that protect these resources, and take action by supporting community projects, education programmes, and infrastructure development.
New Zealand Context
In New Zealand, Soroptimists work to address food security and water sanitation issues in local communities. From supporting food banks and community gardens to advocating for policies that ensure clean water access for rural and marginalised communities, we take action to support those who are most vulnerable.
Our clubs collaborate with local partners and supporters to ensure that food and water needs are met in a sustainable and equitable manner. Initiatives range from installing a water tap in town to promoting education around water conservation and teh environmental impacts of water shortages.
Global Campaigns and Participation
Soroptimists participate in global campaigns such as World Food Day and World Water Day, aligning with international advocacy efforts to highlight the importance of sustainable food systems and water management. We advocate for better resource management policies and encourage our members and clubs to take part in projects that ensure access to these vital resources for all communities.
Supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Soroptimist International aligns its efforts with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). By contributing to these goals, Soroptimists aim to create a world where no one goes hungry, and access to clean water is a reality for all.

Soroptimist International of Aotearoa New Zealand invites you to join us in our mission to secure food and water for those in need. Whether you're looking to volunteer, donate, or advocate for change, there are many ways to get involved.
