Soroptimist International of Waitara:
Comfort Blankets
In 2023, SI Waitara was approached by the local Women’s Refuge to assist in an initiative: providing comfort blankets for children in times of need.
Mission:
The mission was clear – to give children some comfort during a challenging phase of their lives.
Project:
Many children who enter Women’s Refuge often arrive with limited personal belongings. Recognising the need for individual comfort, especially for the little ones, the club took on the task of providing blankets.
The club collected donated wool and knitted squares that would form the heart of these comfort blankets. Utilising warm pieces of material, they sewed them into small blankets.
Why Small Blankets?
The decision to make smaller blankets was intentional. The club understood that the larger blankets provided could be cumbersome for the little ones, and the aim was to provide them with something just the right size for their comfort.
Making a Difference:
This project not only provided warmth but also wrapped the children in a sense of security and love during a crucial time. It’s a small gesture with a profound impact, and SIANZ is honoured to contribute to the well-being of these resilient young souls.
