 DISASTER RELIEF,  .MITIGATION & RESILIENCE

New Zealand Initiatives & Resources

New Zealand is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, making it essential for individuals and communities to be prepared. By sharing these resources, we aim to empower ourselves and our communities with the tools and knowledge needed to stay safe and resilient during emergencies. Preparedness saves lives, and we believe that access to reliable information is key to reducing the impact of disasters.

Get Ready NZ

Get Ready is an official platform managed by New Zealand's Civil Defence, offering comprehensive resources for disaster preparedness. They provide practical advice on staying safe during and after emergencies, how to build resilience, and ways to ensure you're ready for the next earthquake, storm, and flood.

ShakeOut - New Zealand Earthquake Drill

ShakeOut is New Zealand's nationwide earthquake drill that takes place annually. It encourages individuals, schools, and organisations to practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold" techniques and be ready in the event of an earthquake. This initiative raises awareness and helps communities remain prepared for the unpredictable nature of seismic activity in New Zealand.

New Zealand Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM)

CDEM plays a pivotal role in coordinating disaster response and mitigation across the country. Their website provides information on disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and guidance on how individuals and communities can prepare for various types of natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and tsunamis. They offer step-by-step guides on how to create emergency plans and emergency kits for homes, schools, and workplaces.

EQC - Earthquake Commission

EQC provides natural disaster insurance for residential property and promotes research to reduce the impact of natural disasters. Their website offers information on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake as well as details on claims processes for those affected by natural disasters.
