Soroptimist International of Tauranga:
.Mission to Seafarers - Female Mariners
Soroptimist International of Tauranga is dedicated to supporting female mariners through our ongoing "Mission to Seafarers – Female Mariners" project.
Advocating for Better Working Conditions
The conditions for female mariners can be incredibly difficult. We are dedicated to advocating for improved working conditions through our ship's visitors, including a chaplain who offers mentoring support. This effort is crucial in ensuring that female mariners receive the recognition and support they deserve.
Material Support
To address the immediate needs of female mariners, we provide essential items such as hand-knitted beanies, sanitary products, and personal items. In collaboration with a local GP, we also supply the morning-after pill. This material support is vital as women often have to bring their own supplies on board, and any redirection of their ship can lead to shortages.
Crafting Care with Compassion
One of our members channels her skills to craft beautiful and practical items for the female mariners. These efforts ensure that the women receive not only essential items but also a gesture of care and support.
Ongoing Commitment:
This is an ongoing project aimed at continuously improving the lives of female mariners. By addressing both their immediate needs and advocating for systemic changes, we strive to make a tangible difference in their lives.
Soroptimist International of Tauranga is proud to support female mariners through this ongoing project, fostering a community where advocacy and compassion thrive.
