Soroptimist International of New Plymouth:
.Pamper Evening
SI New Plymouth hosted a special pamper evening for mothers of pre-school children from three low socio-economic kindergartens that the club regularly supports. Many of these mothers face challenges such as financial hardship, relationship issues, and sometimes substance abuse. The goal of the evening was to provide a relaxing and uplifting experience, giving them a break from everyday stress and the chance to feel valued and rejuvenated.
Community Partnerships and Generous Donations:
The event was made possible through partnerships with local businesses and generous community donations. Two supermarket chains, a local butcher, a masseuse, three hairdressers, a nail technician, and a beautician all contributed to making the evening memorable. These contributions allowed SI New Plymouth to offer haircuts, nail polishing, massages, and a delicious meal for the mums, making them feel pampered and special.
Empowering Mums with Practical Resources and Support:
In addition to the pampering services, the evening included a guest speaker who provided valuable budgeting advice, helping attendees learn strategies to manage their finances better. Some mums were inspired to seek further support for their personal financial situations, connecting with local budget advice services. A simple, budget-friendly meal was served, and each mother received recipes to try at home, along with access to a clothing rack and a linen table stocked with high-quality used towels and sheets.
A Night to Remember:
Each mother left the event with a "Goodie Bag" filled with soaps, hand lotion, and other thoughtful items. The transformation in the mums was heartwarming; many arrived feeling shy and hesitant but left beaming with confidence, their heads held high. SI New Plymouth was thrilled to provide an evening that brought joy, relaxation, and valuable resources to mothers in need, empowering them to continue on their journeys with newfound confidence and support.
